Lula's strong position in Minas Gerais polling, including a 37% to 31% lead over Flávio Bolsonaro in the latest Datafolha survey and similar margins in prior Datatempo and Real Time Big Data releases, underpins the market's heavy weighting toward the incumbent securing first place in the state's first-round presidential vote. As Brazil's second-largest electoral college, Minas Gerais has historically influenced national outcomes, with Lula building on his 2022 state victory amid the official campaign period that began in mid-August. Flávio Bolsonaro consolidates right-wing support as the main challenger, while Romeu Zema trails further back; minor candidates register negligible shares. The October 4 first-round date leaves room for shifts from debates, turnout dynamics among key voting blocs, or late developments, though current polling averages reflect trader consensus on Lula's statewide edge.
