Canada's 2026 annual CPI inflation market reflects trader focus on energy price volatility amid Bank of Canada projections for an average near 2.5%. Recent headline prints rose to 3.2% in May and 3.0% in July 2026, driven by gasoline surges from Middle East supply disruptions that pushed oil above $75 per barrel at times, though core measures held near 2%. Offsetting factors include economic slack, subdued shelter and services inflation, and a policy rate held at 2.25% to support below-potential growth. The Canadian dollar's depreciation adds import cost pressure, while forecasts assume oil futures moderate later in the year. Outcomes above 3% gain odds if geopolitical risks persist, while sub-2% readings would require faster disinflation from excess capacity.
