Incumbent Katharina Pötter of the CDU holds a commanding position in the Osnabrück Oberbürgermeister race, with traders assigning her the highest probability ahead of the September 13, 2026 direct election and possible September 27 runoff. Her established name recognition from the current term, which began after a 2021 victory, combined with unanimous CDU nomination in June 2026, anchors market pricing. A fragmented field of challengers—including SPD’s Robert Alferink, Green candidate Volker Bajus, and smaller-party contenders—limits any single opponent’s ability to consolidate support. Recent candidate confirmations have clarified the lineup without notable shifts, leaving implied probabilities centered on Pötter’s structural edge while allowing for runoff scenarios or late campaign developments.
