The 2026 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state election on September 20 features Die Linke consistently polling ahead of the CDU in head-to-head vote share, with the most recent INSA survey (August 4–11) showing Linke at 11% and CDU at 10%, following similar gaps of 1–3 points in Infratest dimap and prior INSA readings since May. This positioning reflects Linke’s role in the incumbent SPD-Left coalition under Minister-President Manuela Schwesig and its established eastern German base, contrasted with the CDU’s weaker regional standing amid broader AfD dominance near 36% and SPD at 29%. A mid-August television debate controversy, in which RTL disinvited both parties’ lead candidates, sparked mutual criticism but produced no evident polling shift between them. Traders appear to price the narrow but durable Linke edge shown across multiple surveys.
