The September 13, 2026, Swedish regional elections for Region Skåne's council keep the contest for regional board chair tightly balanced, with trader consensus reflected in near-even pricing across numerous candidates. Current chair Carl Johan Sonesson (M) holds a modest edge as leader of the Moderate-KD-Liberal executive committee supported on budgets by the Sweden Democrats, while Social Democrat Henrik Fritzon, fellow Moderate Anna Jähnke, and others trail. The outcome hinges on seat distributions after the vote and subsequent coalition talks, including SD demands for formal inclusion rather than support-party status. Recent statements from party leaders on governance arrangements and policy priorities in healthcare and regional development have underscored how narrow majorities or shifting alliances could determine the next chair.
