The ANC's shortlist of eight candidates for the November 4 local government elections in Mangaung, including incumbent Gregory Nthatisi and former mayor Thabo Manyoni, reflects ongoing internal party divisions and has left trader consensus tightly clustered among frontrunners. Other listed contenders such as Sekhopi Malebo, Theodorah Mosala-Leeuw, Lulaman Oditi-Titi, Motshewa Tladi, and Vusimuzi Soqaga remain in contention alongside DA candidate Werner Pretorius and EFF's Sam Matiase. This fragmented field, combined with the metro's history of service delivery challenges and the approach of nomination deadlines, sustains balanced implied probabilities. Final ANC selection, upcoming campaign events, or shifts in voter coalitions could quickly widen gaps among the leading names before election day.
