Helen Zille leads the market at 61.5% as the Democratic Alliance's confirmed Johannesburg mayoral candidate for the 2026 municipal elections, buoyed by her prior experience as Cape Town mayor and Western Cape premier plus an active campaign emphasizing infrastructure repairs, water and electricity reliability, and service delivery. Multiple parties field named contenders including Herman Mashaba, Kenny Kunene, Lukhona Mnguni, and Frank Chikane, creating a fragmented field where post-election council coalitions will determine the outcome. Trader positioning reflects Zille's early announcement and visibility advantage ahead of the November 2026 resolution window, while lower probabilities for others track limited polling data and coalition uncertainties in Gauteng's multi-party landscape.
