Following the February 2026 conflict with the United States and Israel, parliament faced extended disruptions before resuming in-person sessions. In June and August 2026, ultraconservative lawmakers from the Paydari Front publicly criticized Ghalibaf over his role in US negotiations, alleged procedural irregularities on parliament closure, and support for diplomatic engagement framed as resistance rather than retreat. These challenges have remained limited, with internal tallies showing fewer than 30 of 290 members in opposition. Ghalibaf continues active diplomatic meetings and public defense of his positions amid ongoing sanctions and regional talks.
