**Flávio Bolsonaro leads trader expectations for first place in Rio Grande do Sul's first-round presidential vote on October 4.** Recent Quaest polling in the state shows him at 34% against Lula at 28-29%, with Ronaldo Caiado, Renan Santos, Romeu Zema and others in single digits. RS has long favored conservative and Bolsonarista candidates in presidential contests, reflecting the region's agribusiness base and voter alignment with the Liberal Party ticket. Flávio's formal nomination by the PL, his father's endorsement, and the start of official campaigning have reinforced this positioning, even as national polls remain tighter. Lower-priced options such as Lula reflect his weaker standing in the state, while minor candidates trail due to limited regional visibility and fragmented opposition. Traders weigh these state-specific dynamics against the broader polarized national race.
