The US Dollar Index (DXY) trades near 98.98 as of August 24, 2026, having fallen to three-month lows amid fiscal concerns after US debt exceeded $40 trillion and 30-year Treasury yields approached multi-year highs near 5.3%. Recent Treasury announcements to expand long-bond buybacks provided limited support, leaving the currency sensitive to shifts in rate expectations. Key near-term catalysts include the July core PCE inflation reading—projected at 0.2% month-over-month and 3.3% year-over-year—alongside the second estimate of Q2 GDP on August 26, and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole keynote on August 28. Markets currently price in roughly a 40% probability of a 25-basis-point hike at the September FOMC meeting, with any hotter-than-expected inflation or hawkish policy signals likely to support the dollar while softer data or dovish commentary could extend the recent decline.
