Recent polls show the CDU at 18-20% ahead of the September 20, 2026, Berlin Abgeordnetenhaus election, down sharply from its 28.2% and 52 seats in 2023, placing it in a tight race with The Left (19-22%) and AfD (17-18%). This positioning supports trader expectations for CDU seat totals in the low-to-mid 30s or high 20s. The July withdrawal of incumbent Mayor Kai Wegner as CDU lead candidate amid criticism of his handling of a major blackout, followed by the switch to Stefan Evers, produced a modest polling rebound for the party. Low SPD support and fragmented opposition further constrain CDU coalition options and overall performance, with the vote less than a month away.
