Gregory Nthatisi, the ANC incumbent executive mayor of Mangaung Metro since 2023, holds the leading position in trader consensus ahead of South Africa’s November 2026 local government elections. His edge stems from established name recognition and organizational infrastructure in a municipality where the ANC secured a narrow 50.63% share in 2021. The Democratic Alliance’s newly announced candidate, Werner Pretorius, and the EFF’s Sam Matiase introduce competitive pressure, as coalition arithmetic in the Free State metro often hinges on smaller parties. ANC internal nomination processes, including recent public portals and shortlists featuring multiple contenders, sustain uncertainty around the final ticket. Low trading volume and numerous 50% outcomes reflect limited resolution data until candidate lists finalize and campaigning intensifies.
