Helen Zille’s 61.5% market share reflects the DA’s polling advantage and her early, high-visibility campaign focused on Johannesburg’s infrastructure failures, power outages, water shortages, and governance instability since 2016. Recent polls place the DA well ahead of the ANC, which has postponed its mayoral candidate announcement until September amid factional tensions between incumbent Dada Morero and deputy Loyiso Masuku, with Frank Chikane reportedly withdrawing. Low probabilities for Herman Mashaba, Kenny Kunene, and others align with their parties’ weaker projected support in the November 4 local elections, where coalition arithmetic and turnout will determine the outcome. Trader consensus incorporates the ANC’s recent internal shortlist and ongoing service-delivery crises as key variables.
