The upcoming November 2026 South African local government elections in eThekwini have produced a crowded field of announced and shortlisted mayoral candidates from the ANC, DA, ActionSA, EFF, and smaller parties or independents. The ANC’s internal shortlist—featuring incumbent Cyril Xaba alongside Nomusa Dube-Ncube, Thabani Nyawose, Maggie Govender, and Mina Soma-Lesoma—alongside DA nominee Haniff Hoosen, ActionSA’s Zwakele Mncwango, EFF’s Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi, and others including Philani Mavundla and Zandile Gumede, reflects fragmented support and the likelihood of coalition negotiations after the vote. Trader prices remain closely matched across multiple names because no party holds a clear path to an outright majority in the metro council, historical coalition patterns persist, and limited recent polling leaves room for shifts from campaign momentum, candidate withdrawals, or voter turnout in key wards. Developments such as formal ANC endorsement, new endorsements, or coalition signals ahead of election day could quickly separate probabilities.
