Goldman Sachs holds a commanding position in the race to lead OpenAI’s IPO, driven by its recent capture of the lead-left bookrunner role on the high-profile SpaceX offering and its unmatched track record in large technology listings. Both Goldman and Morgan Stanley have been selected as the primary underwriters for the anticipated fall 2026 debut, with OpenAI completing a confidential S-1 filing in May and building out its finance team, yet the decisive lead designation remains undecided amid intense competition. Market volatility in late June prompted reports that OpenAI might defer the listing into 2027, slightly softening near-term odds while reinforcing the two banks’ entrenched roles. Smaller players such as UBS and Bank of America trail far behind due to limited involvement in these marquee AI mandates.

If no IPO occurs by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, or OpenAI completes an initial public offering without a designated lead underwriter, this market will resolve to “Other.”
If multiple banks are identified as lead underwriters, this market will resolve according to the primary lead underwriter. If the hierarchy between them is unclear, this market will resolve once it is conclusively evident which bank is the primary lead underwriter, for example, through the order in which the banks are listed in the underwriting section of OpenAI's final initial public offering prospectus, once released.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official disclosures from OpenAI. A consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
