The 2026 Saanich, British Columbia mayoral election is currently scheduled to be held on October 17, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next mayor of Saanich, British Columbia as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting; however, if there is any ambiguity in the results, this market will resolve according to official information from Saanich, British Columbia.**Zac de Vries holds a modest lead among the three main declared candidates for Saanich mayor in the October 17, 2026 election, with Karen Harper and Rishi Sharma close behind, reflecting an open race following the withdrawal of incumbent Dean Murdock.** De Vries, a two-term councillor and former Capital Regional District housing board chair, launched his campaign in June emphasizing housing affordability, regional transit partnerships, climate initiatives, and fiscal management. Harper, a three-term councillor with decades in public service including the BC Pension Corporation, announced in April and highlights cost-effective service delivery and improved internal communication. Sharma, backed by the Save Our Saanich elector organization formed around opposition to certain development plans and spending measures, positions himself as a community-rooted outsider focused on greenspace protection, responsible budgeting, transparent governance, and measured growth. The contest remains competitive because all three bring substantial municipal or public-sector experience in a non-incumbent race, while local priorities such as housing supply, infrastructure costs, and land-use balance divide voter preferences without a clear frontrunner. Nominations close September 11, leaving room for additional entrants. Further separation could emerge from candidate forums, any emerging polls, positions on the non-binding amalgamation question with Victoria also on the ballot, or visibility around specific development and tax issues in the final weeks before voting.
