United Russia maintains a commanding lead in the September 18–20, 2026, State Duma elections due to its status as the ruling party with institutional backing, including President Vladimir Putin’s public endorsement at its August congress. Recent developments include the party’s approval of a five-year program emphasizing wage increases, infrastructure, and family support; nomination of prominent figures and Ukraine conflict veterans on its federal list; and procedural advantages such as favorable ballot positions in multiple regions. Other registered parties face a 5% threshold and have seen candidates or lists sidelined, as with Yabloko’s removal by court ruling. Polling consistently projects United Russia well ahead, though its support has moderated amid wartime economic pressures. Scenarios that could alter the outcome remain narrow, limited to major last-minute shifts in turnout or registration that have not materialized in prior cycles.
