Kirk Cousins holds overwhelming trader consensus as the Las Vegas Raiders' Week 1 starter due to his offseason signing, prior collaboration with head coach Klint Kubiak in Minnesota, and consistent first-team reps throughout training camp and early preseason. The veteran has received starter-level treatment, including rest in recent exhibitions, while rookie first-overall pick Fernando Mendoza and incumbent Aidan O'Connell remain behind him on official depth charts. This setup allows Mendoza time to refine mechanics and adapt to the offense. A late injury to Cousins or dramatic improvement from Mendoza in the final preseason outing against the 49ers represent the primary paths to a different outcome heading into the September 13 opener versus the Dolphins.
