West's stronger performance across most counties, combined with his legislative record on workforce and safety measures plus private-sector experience in commercial cabinet-making, has sustained his lead. Pfeiffer, the House deputy floor leader with a rural and agricultural focus, has closed some ground through recent fundraising and a final debate that highlighted their split on a proposed $4 billion aluminum smelter project, yet trails in implied probability. The other listed candidates were eliminated in the initial primary, leaving the outcome to hinge on registered Republican turnout in the runoff.
