The upcoming November 2026 South African municipal elections in Ekurhuleni have produced a tight race driven by internal ANC divisions and coalition uncertainties typical of Gauteng metros. The party's regional executive committee recently nominated Jongizizwe Dlabathi over incumbent Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, exposing ongoing factional tensions that could influence final candidate selection before the vote. Opposition parties have fielded Khathutshelo Rasilingwane (DA), Xolani Khumalo (ActionSA), and Nthabiseng Tshivenga (EFF), while trader pricing reflects low clarity on whether any single party secures an outright majority or forms a governing coalition afterward. Recent party announcements and the ANC's delayed national decision on its nominee have kept implied probabilities compressed among frontrunners, with limited polling or major shifts in the past month. Key upcoming catalysts include the ANC's candidate confirmation, pre-election surveys on metro support levels, and post-vote negotiations that could favor or sideline individual contenders.
