Q2 results delivered record revenue of $28.24 billion (up 26% YoY) and 480,126 vehicle deliveries, yet operating margin compressed to 1.4% and free cash flow turned negative as capital expenditures rose sharply to $5.79 billion for AI, Cybercab, and Optimus initiatives. Energy storage deployments accelerated while services revenue grew 50%, but regulatory-credit income fell and a large China recall added near-term pressure. Hawkish Fed commentary and sticky inflation data have reinforced higher-for-longer rate expectations, weighing on high-valuation growth names. Robotaxi permitting progress and Cybercab production remain key swing factors into September.
