President Trump endorsed the "National Immigration and Customs Enforcement" (NICE) rebrand in late April 2026 after a social media suggestion, calling it a "GREAT IDEA" and posting mockups while DHS and White House accounts amplified memes. He floated the idea again in May and ran a public poll in June favoring "NICE Agents" by roughly 62 percent. Any formal name change requires congressional legislation amending the agency's authorizing statute, not an executive order. Internal resistance has surfaced from border czar Tom Homan and some agents, with a White House official describing the effort as primarily a meme to counter media criticism. No legislative action or formal proposal has advanced as of late August 2026.
