Hsu Hsin-ying secured the KMT nomination for Hsinchu County magistrate in March 2026 after prevailing in a mixed primary system that weighted polls at 70% and party-member votes at 30%, despite internal disputes with rival Chen Chien-hsien. The DPP nominated Zhubei Mayor Cheng Chao-fang in June 2026. August 2026 polling shows Hsu leading Cheng 41.4% to 38.1% in head-to-head matchups, with the margin holding or widening in three-way scenarios involving Chen as an independent. Hsu draws stronger support from KMT and TPP voters as well as older demographics, while Cheng performs better among younger cohorts. These factors, combined with the county’s recent KMT control and limited evidence of major late shifts, underpin trader consensus around Hsu as the leading outcome ahead of the November election.
