The 2026–27 J2 League season opened in August under a new fall-to-spring calendar featuring 20 clubs, including three recently relegated J1 sides and three promoted from J3. After three matchdays, RB Omiya Ardija sit alone at the top with a perfect record, while Shonan Bellmare, Kataller Toyama, Tochigi City, Fujieda MYFC, Montedio Yamagata, Yokohama FC, and Albirex Niigata occupy the next tier on six or seven points. Pre-season assessments highlighted depth across the division, with Vegalta Sendai, Júbilo Iwata, Sagan Tosu, and Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo viewed as strong contenders alongside ambitious clubs such as Omiya and Toyama. Early results have produced a spread of outcomes rather than any runaway leader, and the 38-match schedule plus promotion playoff format leave ample room for form swings, squad adjustments, and momentum shifts. This parity is reflected in the tightly grouped market pricing.
