Storm Hunter and Maddison Inglis, two Australians, meet in the opening round of US Open women's qualifying on hard courts. Inglis enters with stronger recent hard-court form, including a runner-up finish in Vancouver after straight-set wins and consistent results through Wimbledon qualifying. Hunter, recovering from prior injury setbacks, shows mixed 2026 outcomes with early exits at events like Memphis and limited momentum on the surface. Their head-to-head is split, though both possess grand-slam qualifying experience that could influence set-by-set execution under qualifier conditions. Recent ranking and results position Inglis as the slight market favorite, but upsets remain common in best-of-three qualifying matches.
