Storm Hunter and Maddison Inglis, both Australians meeting in US Open qualifying on outdoor hard courts, bring contrasting recent trajectories into their first-round clash. Inglis, ranked higher at No. 134, enters with stronger hard-court momentum after reaching the Australian Open last 16 as a qualifier earlier in 2026 and advancing to the Vancouver final in late July, while her two prior wins over Hunter—including a 2025 US Open qualifying victory—underscore consistent edge in direct matchups. Hunter, at No. 169 and returning from a major Achilles injury, has shown flashes in qualifiers but posted a mixed 2026 record with recent losses on hard courts and limited success reaching the Flushing Meadows main draw. Surface-specific serving and return stats favor Inglis slightly in baseline exchanges, though both players' experience in Grand Slam qualifying adds volatility to any early-set swings.
