This market will resolve to "Yes" if the Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, ceases to be the de facto leader of Iran at any point between market creation and the listed date (ET). Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Mojtaba Khamenei will be considered to no longer be the de facto leader of Iran if he is removed from power, is detained, or otherwise loses his position or is prevented from acting as the de facto leader of Iran within this market's timeframe. An official announcement of Mojtaba Khamenei’s resignation or removal will qualify for a "Yes" resolution regardless of when the announced departure goes into effect. The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting.Mojtaba Khamenei’s succession as Supreme Leader following his father’s death in February 2026 airstrikes has kept near-term change probabilities low despite his prolonged public absence and reported injuries. As of late August 2026, he continues issuing written directives on economic messaging and regime unity while delegating daily functions amid an ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict now in its sixth month. Traders cite the Islamic Republic’s rapid institutional transition, IRGC influence, and constitutional mechanisms for temporary collective leadership as stabilizing factors, even as fuel shortages, inflation, and leadership frictions with President Pezeshkian surface. Health rumors and lack of appearances create uncertainty, but the system’s demonstrated resilience since the strikes supports consensus that further leadership shifts remain unlikely before late 2026 or mid-2027 absent major new escalations or verified incapacitation.
