The 2026-27 Betway Premiership season has just begun with Orlando Pirates as defending champions after snapping Mamelodi Sundowns’ long title streak, creating immediate uncertainty around second place. Early match results show tight contests among the traditional big three—Pirates, Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs—alongside ambitious sides such as AmaZulu, Stellenbosch, and Sekhukhune United, none of which have separated themselves after the opening fixtures. Squad depth, transfer activity, and fixture congestion across domestic and CAF competitions keep multiple clubs within striking distance of a podium finish. With no dominant form or injury crisis yet established, trader consensus reflects broad parity across the field, where home/away splits, head-to-head trends, and mid-season momentum shifts will likely determine the eventual runner-up.
