Verena Meliss and Camilla Zanolini, both Italian players, meet in the first round of the ITF W35 Trieste on outdoor clay. The 29-year-old Meliss (ranked around 567) enters with a mixed 2026 clay record after a recent three-set loss to Sahaja Yamalapalli in Erwitte and earlier strong showings in Italian events like Santa Margherita di Pula. Zanolini, aged 23 and ranked near 455, brings a stronger recent win rate across ITF events, including a May W35 title on hard and solid August results in Bistrita. No prior singles head-to-head exists, though both have extensive clay experience and home-soil familiarity that could influence early-round momentum in this lower-tier draw.
